3 Great Roads for Driving Near Brisbane

The time has never been better to get out on the open road for a weekend drive. With that in mind we’ve put together a shortlist of some of Brisbane's best roads for driving for you to enjoy from behind the wheel.

Along the way you’ll find a number of lookouts and rest stops that provide the perfect opportunity to relax, have a feed and get some great photos, making driving the routes a genuine family friendly activity.

Mount Nebo Road

Mount Nebo Road begins where Waterworks Road ends - just by the Enoggera Dam in Brisbane's north-west. It offers both fantastic mountain views and a fantastic driving experience for those with more sporting pretensions. 

We recommend heading all the way up to Westridge Outlook (just before Mount Nebo Road turns into Mount Glorious Road) which will take you about half an hour. Take a quick pitstop here and enjoy the view before jumping back in the car and snaking your way back down the mountain.

​​Mount Glorious Road

Mount Glorious Road begins at the roundabout in the centre of Samford Village and makes its way through the picturesque Samford Valley before winding up the mountain, meeting up with Mount Nebo Road, then weaving all the way through to the Wivenhoe Outlook. 

The drive is about half an hour each way or extend it into a more leisurely outing with a pitstop at Wivenhoe Outlook for a scenic view or a coffee and tasty treat at Mount Glorious Cafe or Elm Haus Cafe in the township of Mount Glorious.

Northbrook Parkway

If you wish to continue along from Wivenhoe Outlook, the road turns into Northbrook Parkway and is the final section of this beautiful drive. This section creeps back down the other side of the mountain until you reach Lake Wivenhoe. From here, you can turn left onto Wivenhoe-Somerset Road and make your way along the banks of the lake until you reach Brisbane Valley Highway. 

The Northbrook Parkway drive including the Wivenhoe-Somerset Road section will take you just under half an hour.​
