Racing Around Australia...Again!

To race around Australia is a gruelling task for anyone; to do it once on a bike is an amazing achievement.

Dave Alley is not only racing around Australia for the second time, this time he’s doing it on foot!

The father of four and Senior Constable of Police, Dave has a passion and proven history of pushing himself physically and mentally, managing the feat of becoming the fastest person to cycle supported around Australia – shaving over three days off the previous record, in an amazing time of 37 days, 20 hours and 45 minutes.

Motorama is proud to support Dave on his second Race Around Australia (RAA2), where he is running around Australia in his bid to become the first person to achieve both challenges. He also aims to break the record to become the fastest person to run around Australia, to complement his fastest cyclist accolade.

His race commenced 19 April 2015 in Lismore in far north of New South Wales.

Motorama CEO Mark Woelders ran with Dave on a part of his Brisbane leg shadowed by the RAA2 Team Support Vehicle, a Toyota Hiace from Motorama Toyota.

Mr Woelders praised the determination and endurance of Dave Alley and his team.

“The hours of training and commitment to these causes is a testament to Dave’s strength and character,”

“Motorama is incredibly proud to lend Dave and his team any support we can, and everyone at Motorama is looking forward to seeing him cross the finish line,” he said.

Mr Woelders expressed pride that Motorama was playing a small role in this amazing run.

“Supplying a vehicle for his historic second Race Around Australia was the least Motorama could do, and it’s amazing to think that it is carrying his team, shadowing Dave on his record-breaking run right now,” Mr Woelders said.

To become the fastest person to run around Australia, Dave has to reach 13,383 km in less than 174 days, to break the Centenary of Federation run record set by Pat Farmer in 1999.

In order to remain on track to break the record, Dave will have to run the equivalent of almost two marathons each and every day for six months. Failure to run at least 20km every day would void the run as discontinuous.

The first Race Around Australia (RAA1) raised over $30,000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and this time, RAA2 is raising funds and awareness for the White Cloud Foundation, which helps to support and rehabilitate people living with depression and anxiety.
