Motorama Great Tastes: Tropical Fruit Salad

With weather conditions consistently warm and dry, vegetable and salad prices will remain on a roller coaster in the weeks ahead. Fruit prices are still up and down depending on seasonal availability, rather than the weather. Some of the best bargain bets are still onions, potatoes and pumpkins.  

On the other hand, beans, zucchinis, broccoli, eggplant and cauliflower are either expensive, or on their way to being so. If you’re looking for bargains it would be hard to go past pineapples, valencia oranges, watermelon, rockmelon and imported kiwifruit this week. 

To capitalise on these excellent fruit prices, we’ve found the recipe below for ‘Tropical Fruit Salad’ on which scores 4.9/5.  It has more than 1000 favourites. Depending on price and preference you can swap the pawpaw for currently cheap and available rockmelon.


Ingredients to serve 4 people 


    • 2 tbs Fresh lime juice
    • 1/4 tbs Sugar
    • 1/2 tbs Tequila
    • 1/2 ts Lime zest


    • 1 cup Pineapple; cut into 1" chunks
    • 1 Mango; cut into 1" chunks
    • 1 Papaya; cut into 1" chunks
    • 1 Kiwifruit; cut into 1/2" chunks
    • 4 Strawberries; cut in half


To make the sauce: Combine the lime juice and sugar in small bowl and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Stir in the remaining sauce ingredients. To complete the salad: Combine all the fruit in a medium bowl. Add the sauce and toss. Refrigerate in a covered container for at least 2 or up to 8 hours. Serve.
