Motorama Great Tastes: Classic Waldorf Salad


There are ample supplies and variety on greengrocer shelves this week and this means that there’s plenty of value for money to be had. 

For most consumer good, top quality usually means expensive, however you can find top quality, but cheap zucchinis, capsicum, snow peas, cabbage, potatoes, pumpkin and onions this week. If you love a great salad, lettuce and green leafy salad mix packs are great value this week, for that added flavor, tomatoes have eased in price. Expect tomatoes to be low in price next week though. 

Looking at fruit, strawberries are again, this week’s premier fruit for quality and price. Be sure to refrigerated and eaten as soon as possible.

 Ingredients for to serve four:

  • 1 Cup Walnuts broken; lightly toasted
  • 1 Cup Celery; sliced
  • 1 cup Red seedless grapes; halved
  • 2 Apples; diced
  • 6 tablespoons of Mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice; fresh
  • Salt; to taste
  • Lettuce
  • Black pepper; to taste

Preparation

In a medium bowl whisk together the mayonnaise, lemon juice and about 1 teaspoon of salt and black pepper (Adjust the salt and pepper to your taste). Mix in the grapes, apples, celery and walnuts. Serve on a bed of lettuce leaves.
