Motorama Great Tastes: 'Best Ever Banana Muffins'


The temperatures are rising and unfortunately this means that some of the fresh vegetable’s we’ve been enjoying, will be costing a little more in price. The quality however overall will remain good for the mean time. Those looking for bargains, there will be potatoes, pumpkin, sweet potato and onions in cheap abundance. Cauliflower, celery, eggplant, sweet corn and sliver beet will be a little firmer in price. 


In the weeks ahead, Australian grown nectarines and peaches will improve in quality and gradually reduce in price. Apples and pears are reducing in availability and will increase in price as we near the end of the year. 

This week, the bargains are Cavendish bananas, imported kiwifruit and blueberries. Below we’ve found a recipe for the ‘Best Ever Banana Muffins’ on BigOven.com to take advantage of the bargain Cavendish bananas. Scoring a 4.8/5 it’s sure to serve as a great snack anytime during the day.  

Ingredients for 12 servings:


  • 1/2 ts Salt
  • 3 mashed Cavendish Bananas
  • 1 1/2 Cup Flour
  • 1/3 Butter
  • 3/4 Cup Sugar
  • 1 ts Baking Soda
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 ts Baking Powder

Method: 

Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a mixing bowl. Thoroughly beat together egg, sugar, butter and mashed bananas. Add to dry ingredients. Stir just until moistened. Filled greased muffin cups three quarters full. Bake in a preheated 190 degree oven for 20 to 25minutes or until top springs back when lightly touched.
