Adventure Guide: Sunshine Coast Camping

There are plenty of spots that showcase the diverse beauty of South East Queensland.

Here’s a quick wrap up of some of 3 of the Sunshine Coast’s best camping destinations we’ve found.

COOLUM

Aside from Clive Palmer’s dinosaur-themed golf course, Coolum is a popular spot for families all over.  It is only a short drive to the heart of Noosa yet still has a nice local feel.

The Coolum Beach Holiday Park is located right behind the surf beach, and makes a popular destination for families heading up to the coast for the school holidays.

With shops, cafés, a host of local restaurants and a large skate bowl in behind the park, it is a popular & ideally located Holiday park.

Make sure you factor an early morning scramble up the local Mount Coolum summit for stunning views of the surrounding Glass House Mountains and ocean vistas.

COTTON TREE

Maroochydore hosts the CBD of the Sunshine Coast region, but still retains its beach town vibes – you’re not going to be stuck in any traffic jams or shoving past people on the sidewalks here.

Instead, you can set up camp at the Cotton Tree Caravan Park that sits on a wedge between Cotton Tree surf beach and the sheltered banks of the Maroochy River. Conveniently located a short stroll down the road from Sunshine Plaza, the Coasts’ largest shopping centre, there are also walkways to take the bikes, the dog or just have a stroll all the way up through Alexandra Headlands and Mooloolaba.

This is one busy park, especially with the southern grey nomads, so it pays to book well in advance.  A great spot to also pack the kayak or canoe to access the sheltered upper reaches of the Maroochy River.

MUNNA POINT

Noosa has a reputation as the glamorous northern end of the Sunshine Coast – a prime spot for luxurious weddings and a holiday playground for the well heeled.

There’s no doubt Noosa is a brilliant showcase for the Sunshine Coast’s diversity of picturesque beaches, but some holidaymakers can be scared off by the high price of some of the hotels sitting on the waterfront.

Luckily, the Noosa River Holiday Park is tucked just a short walk away from the fancy boutiques of Hastings Street, and features waterfront camping without the triple figure per night price tag.

Sitting on a patch of land on the sheltered waters of the Noosa Sound close to where the river enters the ocean, the campgrounds have powered and unpowered sites for tents as well as caravans – some within splashing distance of the water.

The park is fully equipped with its own boat ramp, a freezer for all your catches; modern amenities including code secured bathrooms and a communal kitchen overlooking the river.

And if you’re feeling adventurous and keen to get the fourby out for a run, it is a short drive to the Noosa North Shore ferry at Tewantin and then onto Double Island Point and Rainbow Beach.

Before you hit the road to the coast, make sure you come in and make sure everything is in top shape – you don’t want to be stranded on the highway going up or coming back home. Our expert service technicians can look over your car to get you running smoothly on the road, or put your car back to normal after a big holiday so you have one less thing to worry about after your vacation.
